Ink Factory

A young, innovative and creative certified women-owned business purchased a building in Avondale to expand, gain flexibility, and improve their financial independence. The first floor is their work space and the second floor has two rental apartments. Within a limited budget, the building was fully renovated and upgraded. Graphic artists and administrative staff work both in groups and individually so the space contains areas that can open to one another or separate for acoustic isolation and visual organization. To achieve their need for flexible use of space, Blender incorporated sliding glass partitions, a full-height opaque curtain, and custom made 'nesting' benches.

On a fast-track schedule, Blender supported the company in pre-design to prepare documents needed for lending, and to hire a general contractor.  Also early in the project we explored options for future expansion and planned the design accordingly.  We enjoyed developing custom "hacks" for millwork and lighting to keep costs manageable.
